CSA Lt. Gen. A. P. Hill. Beautiful cabinet-card photograph of Hill on albumen surface, backed on traditional cardboard stock. Fine, period toning, with essentially perfect presentation.
Albumen film is about 4 1'2" x 5 1/2". No back mark. This view is expanded from the well-known carte-de-visite photogrpahic format which appeared during and after the war on the cards of several different southern photographers. Superb detail of Hill, adorned in handsome top coat and checkered crevat. A choice photograph of an heroic general who fought under Jackson and was replaced, after being himself wounded, by J. E. B. Stuart. Hill fought heroically at the Peninsular campaign and fought valiantly at Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Petersburg, where he was shot dead by a federal stragler. $650.
