Superb example of an American horseman's iron-hilted, stirrup-pattern saber from the period circa 1775-1790. The blade is 36" +/- with unstopped fuller and blood groove. Strong blade with some traces of etching for about five inches below the guard. The grip is solid wood and about 60 percent of the wrap remains as a thin leather strap or thong. This style of weapon was used by the light dragoons during the Revolutionary War and Federalist period. This saber was once owned by collector George C. Neumann and exhibits no alterations. Some trace of ornate decoration on the tap at top of grip. No scabbard. Overall, a gorgeous weapon reminiscent of early American militia history and offered at a very competitive price. $2,795.
